The widespread misunderstanding of Scheveningen from outsiders might stem from the fact that local residents have historically spent more time at sea than on land. Having worked offshore as far back as 500 years ago, this lifestyle reflects just another way of living.
“Live on Scheveningen, but not in Scheveningen”
This phrase encapsulates a reversal of the traditional concepts of land and sea. Imagining ourselves as a collective crew aboard a ship, we embarked on a symbolic voyage that brought us to the Vuurtoren van Scheveningen.
Beyond the walk, ChunYao Lin presented a film created with archival collage materials sourced from the Haags Gemeentearchief. The film bridges the past and present, offering glimpses into local history and leaving a trace for future witnesses. It was screened alongside a music performance by @rsn601.
The performance also featured light design and symbolic body movements by @katherine__teng and @jaen_rose_, adding layers of metaphor and depth to the event at @seelab_thehague.
